Moldovan parliament speaker meets president of Inter-Parliamentary Union

Chisinau, 28 September /MOLDPRES/ - ”Your visit to Moldova is a special honour for us. This is the first ever visit to Moldova by the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and we appreciate this much,’’ Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grecianii said at a today’s meeting with President of the  Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Gabriela Cuevas Barron, the parliament’s communication and public relations general department has reported.   

The officials found out a good progress in the dialogue between Moldova’s parliament and the Inter-Parliamentary Union. In particular, the sides appreciated the boosting of the cooperation in the context of the 13th IPU Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament and the fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament from August 2020, in which Zinaida Greceanii participated.

At the same time, the interlocutors expressed mutual determination for the continuous extension of cooperation within IPU.  

In particular, the parliament speaker highlighted the importance of a more comprehensive turning to account of the platform of this world organization in promoting the goal of increasing the investments of donor countries in countries from where migrants are coming. ‘’The attraction of investments will allow these states ensure the sustainable growth, create new jobs, use the value added of migrants upon their return to the country,’’ Zinaida Greceanii said.   

For her part, Gabriela Cuevas Barron thanked Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii for the support provided in her capacity of candidate for the office of IPU president and during the exercising of this mandate.

The president of the Inter-Parliamentary Union stressed that Moldova, the country’s parliament can rely on her support as friend of Moldova.  

Gabriela Cuevas Barron also said that she had been impressed by Moldova’s beauty and the people’s generosity, pointing out that the country would remain in her heart.   

In her capacity of member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Congress of the United Mexican States, Gabriela Cuevas Barron expressed interest in the extension Mexico’s cooperation with countries of Europe, including Moldova.    

Zinaida Greceanii shared this goal as well; she showed interest in the more active mutual promotion of investments of the two states and voiced hope for the return to the mobility recorded before COVID-19 as soon as possible.  

”I am glad that Moldova has found a good friend in Mexico in your person,’’ Zinaida Greceanii said.  

The visit to Chisinau by the IPU president represents a first ever event for Moldova and comes as a result of an invitation conveyed by Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii.   

IPU is the biggest inter-parliamentary forum in the world, which promotes the goals of the United Nations Organizations and works in close cooperation with UN. The IPU‘s activity is focused on five major sectors: representative democracy; international peace and security; sustainable development; human rights and international humanitarian law; women in the political life.       

Moldova became member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in 1992. a devenit membru al Uniunii Interparlamentare în 1992.
