Moldovan firemen extinguished 59 outbreaks in southern Greece

Chisinau, 12 August /MOLDPRES/- 59 outbreaks were extinguished in the early hours by firemen of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations / IGSU / deployed to Greece. The employees of the Inspectorate conducted the first extinguishing missions on difficult surfaces jointly with Romanian firefighters.
According to the IGSU press service, during 24 hours of intervention, the Moldovan rescuers managed to extinguish 7 ha of burned land on the mountainside.
According to the information provided by the officers of the operational base, the access to the outbreaks is very difficult, and in some areas the firemen cannot arrive with intervention equipment, using means of first specialized intervention.
The 25 Moldovan rescuers are working in two shifts and will intervene for several days to eliminate the devastating forest outbreaks in Greece.
In the last 10 days, more than 56,000 hectares have been burned, according to data provided by the European Vegetation Fire System, as Greece faces the worst heatwave in 30 years. So far, two deaths and more than 18 injuries have been reported. Crews from Ukraine, Romania, Moldova, Cyprus and Israel came to help Greek firemen. France, Switzerland, Sweden and Croatia also sent emergency planes and helicopters.
