Culture Ministry proposes modification of National Council of Historical Monuments

Chisinau, 18 August /MOLDPRES/ -The Culture Ministry proposes to amend the Regulation on organization and functioning of the National Council of Historical Monuments.

A draft decision was discussed yesterday at a meeting chaired by Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan, attended by representatives of civil society, specialists from institutions with responsibilities in the field of heritage protection, as well as experts in architectural heritage.

During the meeting, the proposals of the relevant ministry for amending the Regulation on the organization and functioning of the National Council of Historical Monuments were presented. The document is to be approved by the Government to enter into force.

Among the proposals submitted by the Ministry of Culture are the establishment of a new composition of the National Council of Historical Monuments and the specific criteria for appointing council members, but also other aspects related to the activity of this structure.

Sergiu Prodan said that the Ministry of Culture will take into account all the proposals for improving the legal framework for the organization and functioning of CNMI and for excluding the impediments that reduce the efficiency of its activity in protecting national historical monuments. "Our task is to prioritize the preservation of architectural monuments that can still be saved and stop the crimes that have been allowed so far," the official said.
