SMURD-2 project launched in Moldova

Chisinau, 20 August /MOLDPRES/ - Authorized platforms for landing-takeoff for helicopters of the Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication (SMURD) will be set nearby four hospitals from Moldova, in Chisinau, Balti and Cahul. The works will be carried out within the SMURD-2 project titled, Improvement of the infrastructure of operation of the Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication and of training intervention staff in emergency in the cross-border area between Moldova and Romania, launched in Iasi on 19 August.  

The project is financed by the European Commission, within the Joint Operational Programme Romania-Moldova 2014-2020.

Also, in partnership with the General Inspectorate of Emergency Situations (IGSU) of Moldova’s Interior Ministry (MAI), General Aviation Inspectorate of Romania’s Interior Ministry and Moldova’s Health Ministry, a string of measures will be carried out, among which: reconstruction and operationalization of two SMURD operation points in the Ungheni municipality and Cantemir town, reconstruction and arrangement of the Units of Rescuers and Firemen from Ungheni and Cantemir, purchasing and endowment of the SMURD park with ten FRAP special intervention vehicles and four special vehicles of difficult extrication, for the providing of the first qualified aid and carriage of patients to hospital, as well as for carrying out works of extrication and rescue.       

Under the project, during 2021-2023, the Emergency Receptions Unit (UPU) is to be set up at the Emergency Medicine Institute and the UPU from the Balti-based Clinical Hospital is to be reconstructed.  

The SMURD project started in Moldova in 2014, when the sides signed an agreement between the governments of Romania and Moldova on mutual assistance for cross-border interventions in case of medical emergencies, which contributed to improving the public emergency services in the cross-border area, including the creation of a border infrastructure for air and medical cross-border interventions.   

Starting from 2014, 115 air and medical missions of patients’ evacuation have been carried out in Moldova, of which 52 with the support of the state enterprise Moldaeroservice and 61 air and medical missions within the operational programme on cross-border cooperation Moldova-Romania.
