European Union disburses 36.4 million euros to Moldova

Chisinau, 28 September /MOLDPRES/ - The European Union today  disbursed the 36.4 million euros to Moldova, promised as direct support for the state budget. Statements to this effect were made at an official meeting of Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and European Commission for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi in Brussels, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.    

The two officials discussed the Moldovan government’s priorities and the promotion of Moldova’s European agenda. The PM referred to the reforms in the field of justice, economic recovery and improvement of the business climate, management of the pandemic crisis and residents’ immunization, as well as the strengthening of the state institutions.   

Natalia Gavrilita appreciated the support provided to Moldova through European programmes on assistance in diverse sectors. She stressed that the European assistance was essential for implementing the domestic reforms and ensuring the macro-financial stability. On this occasion, the prime minister expressed thanks for the approval of the plan on economic recovery for Moldova, worth 600 million euros.   

„We are open for bringing the Moldova-EU relation to a high level. We are looking forward to the meeting of the Association Council, where a new Agenda of Association with EU will be adopted. We want to include the issues of security, justice and energy sector in the political dialogue. We count on the identification of concrete projects on support by the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR),’’ the prime minister said.    

The two officials reviewed also subjects dealing with the development of rural businesses and local infrastructure, in order to create as many as possible jobs in the countryside.  

„We are set to propose a pilot project in Moldova on modernization of the economy in the rural settlements from all over the country, through the development of the food industry and agricultural one, creation of jobs, thus making sure that there are well-paid jobs, the villages are developing and the citizens do not leave the country,’’ Commissioner Varhelyi said.
