Moldovan electoral body's head to hold chairmanship of Association of European Election Officials

Chisinau, 28 September /MOLDPRES/ - The head of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Angelica Caraman, has been elected to hold the chairmanship of the Association of European Election Officials (ACEEEO) on the period 2022-2023.
According to CEC, the ACEEEO General Assembly, held in Bucharest today, elected the head of the Moldovan electoral administration as head of the organization. All institutional members of the Association attending the event voted for the candidacy of Angela Caraman.
„This is a recognition of the aspirations of the electoral management association, as well as of our citizens to strengthen the democracy in Moldova, continue to work for the implementation of the highest standards in electoral matters,’’ Caraman said.
Thus, CEC will prepare the ACEEEO 31st annual conference, due in Chisinau in September 2022 and the subject on the implementation of the alternative voting ways was proposed as topic for discussion.
The Association of European Election Officials is an independent regional organization of the electoral management organizations, with legal status based on the international law. The Association has 25 institutional members (representatives of the electoral authorities from 25 states of European and the area of the Commonwealth of Independent States), three associate members and one support member.
Moldova’s Central Electoral Commission has been a de jure member of ACEEEO since 1998 and starting from September 2013, CEC has been member of the executive committee of this institution. The Commission also held the chairmanship in 2014-2015.
