15 border guards investigated following CNA raids at airport

Chisinau, 29 September /MOLDPRES/- 15 border guards are investigated by CNA officers in almost 60 cases of bribery claims from air passengers.

According to the CNA, the employees of the General Inspectorate of the Border Police are being investigated by the CNA and anti-corruption prosecutors in a complex case initiated on June 23, which includes a total of 59 episodes, of which 38 bribery and 21 other offenses.

The criminal case was launched following operative information that led to the identification of the entire corruption scheme.

As a result of the operative actions, it was found that the employees of the Border Police Sector Chisinau International Airport created and implemented a scheme for illicit obtaining of funds from passengers leaving the country and regarding who were suspected of having and presenting the PCR test at COVID-19. Thus, the police officers involved in the service would have systematically accepted and received from the citizens crossing the border amounts between 50-100 euros.

Currently, 15 border guards are suspected, of which 13 have been detained and are to be placed in the CNA detention center. They are being investigated for passive corruption and risk up to 10 years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold public office for up to 10 years.
