UN Food and Agriculture Organization to back promotion of agro-tourism, traditional products in Moldova

Chisinau, 29 September /MOLDPRES/ - The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Moldova today in the Drochia town launched the component, Rural development through promotion of agro-tourism and traditional products in Moldova, part of the FAO Project on the support of the capacities of promoting agro-food products.  

According to the quoted source, a seminar on the development of the rural agro-tourism and tourist attractions in the region was organized at the launch event.

The event on the launch of this component comes also in the context that the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste is marked on 29 September.

The component meant for the rural development is implemented by the Farmers’ Federation of Moldova (FARM) and will contribute to the promotion of agro-tourism and traditional products in the country’s northern and southern regions. In the process of carrying out this component, decision-makers identified ten tourist destinations in the Drochia district, among which a peasant’s household specialized in the production of ecological vegetables, a small factory of different types of matured cheese, a wood church built 230 years ago, the Jewish cemetery from the region, an ostrich farm, etc. They will also select the native products which will become the visiting card for attracting local visitors, as well as foreign tourists.

Specialized trainings, study visits will be organized and video clips will be carried out, as well as a tourist map will be made with setting signs for tourists, within the new component.    

The FAO project on the support of capacities of promotion of agro-food products is implemented on the period 1 March 2019 – 31 December 2021. The project’s goal is to enhance the degree of awareness about the promotion of Moldovan products on the domestic market, the European Union’s one, as well as on other foreign markets. The project’s overall value is of 300,000 dollars.
