Parliament speaker says Germany important partner of Moldova

Chisinau, 29 September /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Igor Grosu today had a meeting with President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier, on an official visit to Moldova, at an invitation by the head of state, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
Igor Grosu welcomed the delegation led by Frank-Walter Steinmeier, noting that it was an honour for the legislative institution to host this first official visit by a president of Germany.
The speaker took advantage to convey sincere gratitude to the German authorities and nation for the generous assistance provided to Moldova during time, both bilaterally and in international context.
”It is difficult for us to assess the value of the assistance of your country for Moldova and its citizens. Germany is a very good friend and partner; I am sure that these relations will witness a new quality,’’ Igor Grosu said.
The parliament speaker declared for boosting the inter-parliamentary, commercial, economic, cultural, educational cooperation, in the health sector as well as in the public administration’s one.
According to the parliament speaker, the Moldova-Germany business forum, held in Chisinau today, will give start to new economic contacts between companies from the two countries.
Grosu highly appreciated the German Bundestag’s Programme for graduates of higher education institutions from Moldova – an excellent opportunity to know the best practices of the authentic parliamentary democracy.
The parliament speaker assured the high-ranking German official of the fact that the authorities would do their utmost for Moldova’s democratization and Europeanization.
”EU is Moldova’s strategic partner. We will closely cooperate in terms of promotion of the key reforms, strengthening the state’s institutions, improving the people’s living,’’ Igor Grosu said.
Frank-Walter Steinmeier welcomed Moldova’s developments and stressed that, due to the major political change, Moldova becomes an interesting partner for many countries of the European Union. politice.
The federal president encouraged the Moldovan authorities in the efforts of reforming the justice, combating corruption, improving the governance act. He gave assurances that Germany would back the progress as regards the transparency and European modernization of Moldova.
Frank-Walter Steinmeier noted that, after the assistance worth 10 million euros, announced today, other financial support programmes in key sectors would follow.
The president of Germany stressed that the visit by the delegation he is a member of and the stay of representatives of the German business environment in Chisinau was a signal to support Moldova.
