Law on tobacco control to be improved in Moldova

Chisinau, 30 September /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved a notification which extends the sphere of enforcement of the law on tobacco control over the tobacco products and the related ones, as well as over the devices and accessories of usage, their recharging and heating, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.    

The cabinet proposes:

to remove the exceptions as to the labelling of the tobacco products and the related ones in the case of their sale in shops, pubs and restaurants with duty-free regime, which triggers illicit and contraband trade with these products;   

to reduce the quantity of nicotine contained in the liquid from the electronic cigarettes and the supply bottles from 72 mg to 20 mg, which endangers the health of the smokers through high risk of creating dependence;  

to ban the online sale of all types of tobacco products, including of the products from tobacco which does not burn.  

At the same time, the draft sees the adjusting of the Article 911 from the Contravention Code, by which decision-makers suggest that the contravention sanctions on the placement of tobacco products on market and their sale, especially in case of minors, are applicable also as regards the devices and accessories of usage, their recharging and heating.
