New declaration on Transnistrian settlement approved in Stockholm

Chisinau, 3 Dec. / MOLDPRES /- At the 28th meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council, held in Stockholm on 2-3 December this year, under the auspices of the Swedish OSCE Presidency, a new Declaration on negotiation process was approved today in the 5 + 2 format on Transnistrian settlement, the Office for Reintegration Policy has reported.

Foreign ministers of the 57 OSCE participating states reiterated their firm determination to reach a comprehensive, peaceful and lasting settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, based on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, within its internationally recognized borders with special status for localities in the Transnistrian region, as well as calling for rhythmic cooperation at all levels of the negotiation process to continue the results-oriented approach and active engagement during the Polish OSCE Presidency in 2022 , marking the concrete progress on all the baskets on the agenda of the negotiations (socio-economic, humanitarian, comprehensive regulation).

The need to fully implement the commitments reflected in the 5 + 2 protocols and the so-called Berlin + package has been emphasized, encouraging the development of new confidence-building measures and stepping up efforts to ensure respect for fundamental human rights and freedoms. Relevant and serious concerns on individual cases and in areas affecting the daily life of the inhabitants of the Transnistrian region, thus building a solid basis for advancing the regulatory process.

Government officials at the OSCE meeting praised the interaction between the banks in combating COVID-19 and Chisinau's assistance to the region, as well as providing hundreds of thousands of doses of vaccine, urging further cooperation on other humanitarian issues in the interests of the inhabitants of both banks of the Dniester, including in addressing issues in car transport, in line with the Vienna Convention of 08.11.1968 and the Protocol Decision of 24.04.2018.

As in previous statements, the need to relaunch the 5 + 2 negotiating format as soon as possible was emphasized, welcoming the active attitude of the mediators and observers in this format and encouraging the continued coordination of their efforts by using their full and collective potential to boost progress in all sectors and focus them on achieving comprehensive settlement of the Transnistrian conflict.
