Moldovan president participates in public discussions on preparing new national programme on afforestation

Chisinau, 3 December /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu, at an invitation by the Environment Ministry, today participated in a public discussion on afforestation, which is a priority of Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.
The participants in the event referred to the preparation of a national programme on afforestation, which provides for the increase in the area of forests by at least 100,000 hectares in Moldova. ‘’The programme’s implementation is an important part of Moldova’s efforts to reduce the effects of the climate changes and switch to a more sustainable economic model of development. We count on the support of the development partners in this effort,’’ President Maia Sandu said in her speech given at the event titled, Joint actions for Moldova’s afforestation.
The head of state stressed that the solutions to the ecology problems can be found in common approaches and united efforts, for the benefit of all citizens. ‘’By reestablishing the forests, we can stop the erosion of soils and the landslides; we can reestablish the quality of the air and the access to the drinking water in the country and can leave a greener and healthier country to the next generations,’’ Maia Sandu noted.
In the end of the event, the head of state, along with the team of the Environment Ministry and representatives of diplomatic corps participated in the planting of oak-trees in the Codrii (Forests) Scientific Reserve.
