Chisinau, Dec. 16 / MOLDPRES /- A photo exhibition was recently launched in Cahul, bringing together the works of the 13 participants of the Equality in Objective photography camp, supported by the European Union. During the camp, they learned how to become promoters of gender equality and human rights in society through the art of photography, and experiment with techniques for creating portraits, photo essays and photo exhibitions.

The event took place in the square of the State University Bogdan-Petriceicu Hasdeu, being part of the campaign 16 days against gender-based violence. "I think that through this exhibition, equality can be seen on two levels, the first being at the level of thinking. You have to think about equality in order to detect its possible absence, and the other level requires you to do something about equality, because it cannot be ensured just by thinking. Young people are agents of change. You are the ones who will tell the politicians, as well as your peers, what is not good, what is not working ", said Jānis Mažeiks, head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova.

For her part, Dominka Stojanovska, a country representative of the United Nations Agency for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment (UN Women) Moldova, said she was surprised and moved by the photos she saw at the exhibition. "Predetermined roles and stereotypes can be overcome. In the visual representation we saw here today, you show that what you learned as a child can be overcome. This exhibition is proof of the opposite. We must stop the phenomenon of being predetermined, because in this way not only you have to lose but society and state ", said Dominka Stojanovska.

In a year marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, the participants illustrated their own vision of gender equality, in order to raise public awareness on this subject. They visited different localities in Cahul district and looked for protagonists to create their own essays and stories.
