State Hydrometeorological Service to get public authority status

Chisinau, Dec. 16 / MOLDPRES /- MPs today approved in the final reading amendments to the law on hydrometeorological activity.

The document provides for the exclusion of the duplication of the competencies of the State Hydrometeorological Service and of the Environmental Agency in terms of monitoring the state, quality and pollution of the environment.

Following the changes, the Environmental Agency will perform its basic environmental quality monitoring function without hindrance, will manage the monitoring infrastructure (Environmental Reference Laboratory) and will make public the information on the state of the environment in the Republic of Moldova - through the National Report in this domain.

At the same time, the State Hydrometeorological Service will ensure the monitoring of the state and the evolution of the weather (temperature, precipitation, humidity), of the meteorological conditions. He will also obtain the status of public authority, being granted legal provisions regarding the management of the Service, the status of employees (civil servants and auxiliary staff). For the specialists of the Service who will not hold the status of civil servant, qualification categories will be established, meant to motivate the professional improvement of the specialists and the maintenance in service of the young specialists.
