Moldova to benefit from grant worth 3.1 million dollars for development of sustainable agriculture

Chisinau, 16 December /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will benefit from a grant worth 3.1 million euros on behalf of the World Bank for the development of the sustainable agriculture. An agreement to this end on 15 December was signed between the Moldovan Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA) and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), within the Moldova Agricultural Competitiveness Project (MAC-P).
Due to the Agreement, agricultural producers who invest in agricultural and environmental soil friendly practices and technologies, such as no-/lot-till equipment, mulching equipment, agro-forestry measures, will be able to benefit from financial assistance.
At the same time, the document sees the rehabilitation of 2,000 hectares of protection forest belts in the basin of the Raut river in the country’s northern region, where soils’ degradation has reached significant scale.
The agreement on grant represents the fourth additional financing for MAC-P and regards the extension of activities of encouraging the enforcement of sustainable management of lands, promoting knowledge and integration of good practices, as well as the implementation of measures of protection and conservation of soil.
The agreement will enter into force after the fulfillment of all procedures provided for in the national legislation. The deadline for the implementation is 31 December 2024.
