Perspectives of cooperation within Associated Trio discussed at working dinner given by Lithuanian president

Chisinau, 16 December /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu, on 15 December in Brussels, participated in a working dinner given by President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda for the leaders of the Associated Trio, which represents the three countries associated with EU of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) – Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia. Also, attending the dinner were heads of state and government of EU countries, high-ranking officials of the European Union, the presidential press service has reported.
The three leaders reconfirmed the commitment to promote the common values on which EU is established: democracy, observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms, rule of law state. They also reconfirmed the commitment to advance the European integration process through comprehensive reforms for strengthening the institutions, as well as for adjusting the legislation in the relevant sectors to the EU acquis. In the context, the sides highlighted the importance of EU’s closer cooperation with the EaP countries, which register a quicker progress and which are willing a closer association relation with the European Union, both in the economic and in the political sectors.
The Associated Trio’s leaders showed interest in the deepening of the cooperation in such fields as energy, digitalization, security, infrastructure and trade, environmental protection and switch to the green economy. The leaders also discussed the gradual integration into the European Single Market, joining the Singe Euro Payments Area (SEPA) and removing of the roaming tariffs, as well as opportunities of cooperation to develop joint initiatives and projects between Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia. In the end, the three leaders of the Associated Trio thanked the counterparts attending the event for the every support provided to manage the crisis triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
