Azeri poet commemorated at Moldova's National Library

Chisinau, 17 December /MOLDPRES/ - The National Library of Moldova (BNRM) and the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Chisinau, with the support of Moldova’s Culture Ministry, today organized a cultural event titled, Heritage of Nizami Ganjavi in the context of the inter-cultural dialogue. The action is occasioned by the 880th anniversary of the birthday of the greatest Azeri poet and thinker.  

Attending the event were Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Moldova Gudsi Osmanov, the head of the Moldovan Writers’ Union, Teo Chiriac, poet Ion Hadarca, who translated a book of aphorisms by Nizami, culture and art people.       

In the beginning of the event, BNRM director Elena Pintilei said that Nizami Ganjavi was one of the unique personalities, who had opened a new page in the history of the artistic thinking of the mankind.

In his speech, Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan noted that Nizami Ganjavi was a special personality, a man of culture, whose work had influenced the world’s literatures. The official said that he was particularly pleased to participate in the inauguration of the writer’s bas-relief at the headquarters of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Chisinau today.    

For his part, Ambassador of Azerbaijan, Gudsi Osmanov, stressed that the work of Nizami had a worthy place in the treasure of unique cultural values during more centuries. The works of Nizami were translated into more languages, with scientists from various countries resorting to the study of his works. He urged people to kindness, compassion, backed friendly relations between the nations and furiously denounced leaders tyrants and dreamed of a kingdom of justice.  

At the same time, the Azeri official addressed to the people present at the event a message on behalf of the Culture Minister of Azerbaijan, who made a donation of books to the National Library. The diplomat stressed that the Moldovan-Azeri cultural relations had witnessed a vast development in the last years.
