Chisinau, 27 December /MOLDPRES/ - A well-known Romanian musician, composer, singer, guitar player, TV producer and presenter Victor Socaciu died at the age of 68 year at a hospital in Bucharest today.

According to the Romanian media, his health condition worsened back in last September.

Victor Socaciu was born in Brasov, Romania, on 14 January 1953. He came from a family of ordinary people, but quite open ones, as the departed singer said in his biography. Socaciu used to say that he had been so moved by the sentimental songs sung by his parents, that he was hiding under the table and crying, even if he did not understand what a silent love means.

"My attraction to the folk music started in 1972, when I heard Mircea Florian singing at radio. He was the one to draw my attention to the native folk music. I was also reading about folk in the magazines of those times. And I started to write songs as well. I think this was the place where I could assert myself best of all. When I studied at the lyceum, I wrote a song titled, The Hairdresser. This was a reaction to the fact, each time we were playing a nasty trick, the headmaster cut our hair. This was the disciplinary measure he was taking. And then I wrote the song, The Hairdresser, and certainly, I became the central figure of the lyceum,’’ the departed folk singer wrote in his biography.

Victor Socaciu cooperated with all members of the Flacara (The Flame) literary circle. He signed the titles of more radio and television programmes. The singer wrote more than 300 songs.
