Chisinau, January 11 / MOLDPRES /- Omicron variant was found in Moldova, following the sequencing process. The announcement was made today by ANSP director Nicolae Jelamschi.
First 16 cases of infection with the new Omicron strain have been confirmed in the country. The youngest patient infected with this strain is two months old, and most Omicron patients are from the capital.
Jelamschi said the number of cases of COVID-19 infection had risen by 77.6% this week. "We have previously announced a possible increase in the number of infections. A new wave begins this week that could last until Easter. And its peak could be in February, "the official said.
He noted that the ANSP had prepared the necessary information for the Extraordinary National Commission on Public Health, which would meet for a decision.
On the other hand, the data presented by the ANSP management show that recently the number of people who administered the booster dose has increased, as well as the number of minors who have been immunized.
