Chisinau, 11 January /MOLDPRES/ - A senior officer of the Botanica police district from Chisinau has been detained by the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) and prosecutors in a cause on passive corruption. He is suspected of having extorted 3,500 euros from a man, in order to exempt him from criminal responsibility in a file opened for hooliganism.
According to the denouncer, the law-enforcer would have recently called the man, in order to propose him an agreement, after he was involved in a scuffle outside a club.
The policeman would have contacted the denouncer, demanding 3,500 euros from him, in exchange for describing the hooliganism act as contravention. Last week, under CNA’s control, the first installment of 2,500 euros was conveyed. The transmission of money took place nearby a fuel supply station from the Moldovan capital and the case was documented with special means.
Today, following the searches carried out, the policeman was detained for 72 hours and a criminal file was opened against him for passive corruption. If found guilty, he runs the risk of being sentenced to up to 10 years of imprisonment.
