Political representatives at negotiations on Transnistrian settlement hold first working meeting of 2022

Chisinau, 27 January /MOLDPRES/ - The first working meeting of the political representatives in the process of negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement on behalf of Chisinau and Tiraspol, Oleg Serebrian and Vitaly Ignatyev, took place today, the reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.    

The event was held in form of videoconference. Attending the action were representatives of the mediators and observers of the 5+2 format of talks.

The participants in the meeting welcomed the resumption of the meetings in this format; the sides expressed willingness to maintain a constructive dialogue, in order to boost the process of negotiations and establish the priority directions of work for the immediately next period.  

The political representatives discussed aspects dealing with the re-launch of the activity of the sectoral working groups on all fields (education, human rights, healthcare, agriculture and environmental protection, telecommunications, development of road transport, etc.), in order to be tackled at the technical level and to identify concrete solutions to current problems.

Also, the chief negotiators exchanged opinions on the holding of the next round of 5+2 negotiations. Deputy PM Oleg Serebrian reiterated the Moldovan side’s willingness to participate in this meeting, with the approaching of the most topical issues, including the reviewing of the level of implementation of the commitments agreed upon in the Berlin+ package.  

As for the planning of processes, the sides stressed the need to carry out topic-related consultations with the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, who will pay a working visit to Moldova in the near future.
