Moldova received batch of vaccine donated by US through COVAX Platform

Chisinau, 28 January /MOLDPRES/- Health Ministry has got a batch of 100,620 doses of Pfizer - BioNTech / Comirnaty vaccine donated by the United States Government through the COVAX Platform.

The vaccine doses will be kept in the warehouse of the National Agency for Public Health (ANSP) and distributed proportionally in all vaccination centers in the country.

"It is a very important donation for the country, especially in the context of the new wave of COVID-19. We thank the American people for this support and the gesture of solidarity expressed through this donation. We urge the citizens to get vaccinated, because it is the safest protection against serious and extremely serious cases of COVID and avoid hospitalization ", Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco said.

The COVAX mechanism is led by the Alliance for Vaccines (GAVI), the Coalition for Innovation in Epidemic Preparedness (CEPI) and the WHO. COVAX is the only global initiative working with governments and manufacturers to ensure that vaccines against COVID-19 are available worldwide to both high-income and lower-income countries.

"In partnership with COVAX, we have delivered to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova 100,620 doses of Pfizer vaccine against COVID-19. The United States is committed to partnering with Moldova and is helping to end the pandemic around the world, "said Laura Hruby, the US Embassy's business manager in Chisinau.

Previously, the US Government donated 302,400 doses of Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine to Moldova through the COVAX Platform.

In total, Moldova received 2,823,060 doses of vaccine against COVID-19, of which 917,010 doses through the COVAX mechanism. So far, 1,009,598 people have completed the full vaccination schedule.
