Chisinau, 1 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has participated in the General Assembly of Local Authorities, organized in the context of the Day of Local Autonomy Public Administration Employee, marked today. Attending the event, held online, were more than 700 mayors from all over Moldova, who brought together to discuss daily problems, as well as the future Local Public Authorities (APL) in Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.
In her opening speech, the head of state said that the people from all the country’s villages and cities were expecting concrete results from those whom they had elected to lead the settlement. According to the president, the most important things the citizens need today are the well-paid jobs and quality public services – goals which must be on the agenda of all local authorities. As for the optimization of the local administration, relevant remains here the fair and transparent access to the sources provided from the public budget – and the government has already announced a single fund for backing the development locally; decentralization; turning to account the opportunities of external financing; strengthening the local autonomy; enhancing the capacities of the local public administration employees and ceasing the abusive controls against them.
President Maia Sandu reiterated confidence that strong and independent local governance can be an important pillar of the democracy and Moldova will be really prosperous only when the change for the better is felt by each village and city.
„Today I want to congratulate all mayors, all local public administration employees who work with self-denial and correctness for the people from their settlements and I want to thank them for the effort they make in most often difficult conditions. I congratulate the mayors who, despite the difficulties, show original approaches, mobilized internal and external resources, attracted investments and created sustainable partnerships. And in this way, they proved that the good governance is possible, that the strategic management is welcome locally as well and that the economic situation of the communities from Moldova can be improved,’’ the Moldovan president added.
