Chisinau, 19 April /MOLDPRES/ - The social centre from the Selemet village, southern Cimislia district, has become home for about 50 elderly people and 26 children from this settlement. The institution’s beneficiaries today met Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, on a working visit to the Cimislia district, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The settlement’s mayor, head of the Congress of Local Authorities from Moldova (CALM) Tatiana Badan said the social centre was one of the multiple social successful projects implemented by the mayoralty. In the first half of the day, the centre provides services to elderly people. They benefit from the services of a social canteen, washhouse, hairdresser’s, as well as procedures of physiotherapy. The centre also delivers warm dinners to people who have no possibility to move to the institution.

In the second half of the day, the centre opens its doors for those 26 children beneficiaries who participate in informal activities. The institution is also attended by families of Ukrainian refugees who temporarily settled in Selemet. According to institution’s employees, after the centre’s opening, the number of cases of school dropout decreased considerably.

„I appreciate the effort you make for the development of the community and for the support you provide to vulnerable people. In these difficult moments, marked by crisis and uncertainty, it is extremely important that we remain united and give a helping hand to those in need. The solidarity will defeat any crisis. Namely for this reason, the government on 18 April approved the rectification of the national public budget, which provides for the increase of allocations for the indexation of pensions and social payments, backing the farmers and entrepreneurs, as well as increasing of transfers for the local public authorities, taking into account the higher costs for food and energy resources,’’ Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita said.

Tatiana Badan informed the PM also about other social projects in the settlement, including through the Baștina-Selemet Junior și Senior public association. Badan thanked the prime minister for the government’s support to overcome the humanitarian and energy crisis, through the light of facilitating the assistance meant for the local public authorities.

„Presently, we have a considerable support on behalf of the Norwegian organization Norge-Moldova and we send the surplus of humanitarian aid to other social centres of the country. We are quite happy that we can be useful not only for the local community, but also for the entire region,’’ Tatiana Badan added.
