Head of state promulgates law banning use of symbols promoting war in Moldova

Chisinau, 19 April /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today promulgated the law which bans the use in Moldova of the symbols which promote the military aggression, the presidential press service has reported.
In her message, the head of state said that the amendment of the national legislation concerning several signs and letters which are used by the Russian army in Ukraine and on the prohibition of the symbols of this war in Moldova did not attempt against the country’s historical memory and the people would further be able to commemorate the heroes who had fought in the World War II.
„We do not need symbols which quarrel us. Those who use the symbols of war, in order to drop hatred in our consciences and to create hostility and division in the society, will pay toughly under the law. Moldova is a country of peace, in which we unite our spirits and hearts. United with each other in this crisis of war, empathic in this human catastrophe – this is how we are and we will always be like this!’’ reads the message conveyed by President Maia Sandu.
Under the decree, the new provisions enter into force at the moment of their publication in Moldova’s Official Journal.
