Only 18 polling stations arrange access for people with disabilities in Moldova

Chisinau, 20 April /MOLDPRES/ - About 72 per cent of the public institutions where elections are organized are inaccessible to people with disabilities.
A study made at an order by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) shows that 1,448 public institutions where polls are held are inaccessible for disabled people. Only 18 polling stations are fully accessible.
According to data of the study, Equal access for everybody to polling stations, carried out by the INFONET Alliance, in partnership with the MOTIVATION Association from Moldova, at an order by CEC and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Moldova, competent people assessed 2,017 public institutions used for the organization of the electoral process. A number of 551 of them, i.e. 27 per cent, are partially accessible.
Data by the National Social Insurances House shows that, in early 2021, 174,500 people with disabilities were registered in Moldova, of whom about 10,400 children.
