World Bank extends support for farming sector of Moldova

Chisinau, 21 April /MOLDPRES/ - The World Bank will provide Moldova’s government with additional support, in order to advance the agenda of development of the Moldova Agriculture Competitiveness Project (MAC-P). The subject today was considered by the leadership of the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA) at a meeting with Bank’s representatives and a team of experts, who will assess the degree of efficiency of the project and will formulate recommendations till the end of this month.
The World Bank’s team expressed willingness to enhance the cooperation with the Moldovan government, and especially with the Agriculture Ministry, with the institutions related to the agricultural sector, in order to efficiently implement the best practices of adaptation to climate changes, boosting the development of the sectors with high value added and development of sustainable businesses in the rural environment.
The sides discussed also the financial instruments available, which might be oriented towards the strategic directions for improving the agriculture’s productivity.
„Among these directions, there is also the consolidation of the management of food safety, through financial support for the construction of a unit for processing byproducts of animal origin and investments in the development of the animal husbandry sector, including the facilitation of farmers’ access to new sales markets and ensuring the country’s food security,’’ MAIA said.
