Chisinau, 14 October /MOLDPRES/- The mayoralty of central Ungheni district implemented a string of proper waste management projects within a programme funded by the European Commission, which ended in October 2015.
Ungheni district was selected to participate in the ““Introduction of Innovative Waste Management Practices in Selected Towns in Georgia, Moldova and Armenia” project in October 2013. The two-year project was implemented by local public authorities and partner non-governmental organizations from Kutaisi (Georgia), Ararat (Armenia), with the support of several environment associations from Galati city, Romania.
Representatives of the towns involved in the project, became familiar with innovation waste management practices used in the EU. As a result, Ungheni district had successfully implemented a selective waste collection system, serving as an example for its partners.
The project also implied action plans on waste management to be implemented by the three towns' mayoralties.
According to the mayor of Ungheni district, Alexandru Ambros, the project was a success story for his town. He urged other localities to implement it as well. “We had the opportunity to learn more proper waste management methods, which will help us improve our citizens’ life quality,” Ambros said.
