Chisinau, 26 October /MOLDPRES/ - The embassy of Slovakia in Moldova today donates ten high-tech ambulances to the Emergency Medicine Institute from Chisinau.
The director of the Institute, Mihai Ciocanu, at the donation ceremony, said that, although the vehicles were not new, they were functional and met European standards. "Seven out of the ten trucks will be distributed to the AVIASAN Service, that will allow carrying seriously ill patients to hospital in safety conditions," Ciocanu said. The ambulances are to be endowed with medical devices.
Attending the event, Health Minister Ruxanda Glavan said "the emergency medical assistance represents a priority in the ministry's work. Ten ambulances represents a lot, yet not at all enough against what the country needs." According to Glavan, "a lot of people die at the pre-hospital stage in Moldova, as most of the ambulances, the 903 Service avails of, are not adapted to the international standards."
Slovakian Ambassador to Moldova Robert Kirnag told journalists that the project, estimated at over 60,000 euros, was aimed at rescuing more human lives. "A study has been made in Slovakia, showing that that many people die, given that they fail to benefit from emergency medical assistance. The life of a patient ill with heart attack may be rescued, if he/she receives assistance in the first 30-45 min. Otherwise, the patient may die. These ambulances may reach the sick persons in 15 minutes," the diplomat said.
In 2015, the Slovakian government implements projects worth 800,000 euros on drinking water supply, waste management, etc. in Moldova. In the near future, the embassy of Slovakia will donate an ambulance to the Penitentiary Institutions Department and another one to the Dermatology and Communicable Diseases Hospital from Chisinau.
