Contest on top court's judge position starts today

Chisinau, 27 October /MOLDPRES/- The Moldovan Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial) today published an Instruction by Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet on selecting candidates for the Constitutional Court’s judge position on behalf of the government. Thus, starting from today till 4 November, all those who meet the conditions set by the law on Constitutional Court, as well as the regulation on organization and holding the contest may submit their files, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
Among the conditions and requirements for candidates, there are irreproachable moral reputation, knowledge in the national and international legal system, legal experience, and knowledge of one of official languages of the Council of Europe – English or French – will be an advantage.
The prime minister's instruction sees that the commission’s members will organize the selection of candidates and will present their list to the government in a 30-day period.
The commission is made up of former judges of the Constitutional Court Victor Puscas and Nicolae Osmochescu, Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Moldovan State University Sergiu Baiesu, representatives of civil society, Executive Director of Association for Participatory Democracy Igor Botan, head of press council Ludmila Andronic and legal adviser to the Legal Resources Centre Sorina Macrinici. Deputy Secretary-General of the cabinet Roman Cazan and prime minister’s senior state advisor in justice Sergiu Gurduza have been included in the commission on behalf of the government. Valeriu Strelet is the chairman of the commission.
