European official urges Moldovan pro-European parties to put country above political interests

Chisinau, 28 October /MOLDPRES/-The leader of the European People’s Party (EPP), Joseph Daul, today conveyed a message to the pro-European forces from Moldova, urging them to put the country above the political interests.

Daul said the political situation in Moldova was particularly alarming. “The censure motion submitted by the Party of Socialists (PSRM) and Party of Communists (PCRM), that will be voted on 29 October in parliament, is more than just a test for Moldova’s future and its European path, materialized in the signing of  the Association Agreement with EU. This is a decisive ruling. As EPP president, I call on all pro-European political forces to prove the greatest responsibility and give up all political games”, he said.

He pointed out that the Alliance for European Integration (AIE) must be preserved, as it was the only chance to maintain Moldova on the path of development, reforms and modernization. “AIE is the only response to citizens’ legal demands. The Alliance has to consolidate fairly and transparently around a concrete action plan, without being blackmailed and influenced by the voting of a censure motion”, he added.

Also, Daul said that the members of the present parliamentary majority, who were going to join Socialists and Communists, would bear responsibility for Alliance’s failure, and the government’s fall would significantly diminish the prospects for the European integration and would lead the country to an unprecedented economic and social chaos.

“A vote of confidence to the  Strelet government will prove Moldova’s commitment to remain on the European path. This is and must remain the country’s main goal, regardless of the current political interests of different parties”, he said.

Last week, the MPs of the parliamentary factions of PSRM and PCRM submitted a censure motion against the present government.
