Chisinau, 28 October /MOLDPRES/- The cabinet today approved a new draft law on waste management, providing for legal bases, state policy and measures needed to ensure environment protection and peoples’ health, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The draft law sees that waste management methods will not endanger the environment, peoples’ health and other living organisms. Authorities in charge will authorize waste collecting, transportation, exploitation and disposal activities, avoiding water, soil, flora, fauna, phonic and air pollution. New methods must not endanger landscapes or protected areas.
The new draft law aligns the national legislation to the EU provisions in this field, stipulated in the Moldova-EU Association Agreement, as well as in the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA), which is a component part of the Association Agreement.
The provisions of the new draft law will help fulfill the commitments Moldova had made after the ratification of international treaties that set up certain waste management requirements, and will also regulate and introduce measures to prohibit/restrict dangerous the use of hazardous substances in products or other goods.
The draft law provides for the optimization of the waste management department, of the institution in charge of environment protection in Moldova. The draft law is to be examined by the parliament.
