Chisinau, 28 October /MOLDPRES/- The Democratic Party (PD) suggested Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet resign voluntarily and unaffiliated MPs join the Alliance for European Integration (AIE), in order to reset it. The PD has not yet decided whether it will support the motion of censure initiated by the Party of Socialists (PSRM) and the Party of Communists (PCRM). The announcement was made by the leader of the PD, Marian Lupu, at the end of the meeting of the AIE council. Strelet said he was heading towards the headquarters of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), for further discussions.
After almost one hour of talks, the AIE leaders shared different views on the current political situation in Moldova. While the prime minister unveiled a short-term action plan to his colleagues, Lupu was skeptical about this, adding that plans mean nothing without the support of a parliamentary majority.
“We must draw all the pro-European forces in the Moldovan parliament, as the PD will never form a coalition with leftist parties and will not help hijack Moldova’s EU integration course. As a result, the PD voiced distrust of Valeriu Strelet, in particular due to his efforts to defend the former PLDM leader following the events of 15 October. We suggest he resign in order to create the necessary conditions to re-build a pro-European alliance with a stable majority. Once we agree to reach a reset position, we will encourage the quick development of negotiations with the group headed by the former PLDM member, Iurie Leanca and the unaffiliated MPs,” Lupu said.
The leader of the Liberal Party (PL), Mihai Ghimpu, said his party would not take part into this process and would not back the motion of censure initiated by the PSRM and PCRM.
The MPs of the group headed by Iurie Leanca, had previously stated that they would not back the motion of censure against Strelet’s government.
