Nine applicants for National Bank of Moldova governor position likely to be admitted to contest

Chisinau, 30 October /MOLDPRES/- Nine persons out of 11 ones, who applied for the position of governor of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM), could be admitted to the contest. The parliamentary commission on selecting the candidate for the BNM governor office, which convened at a meeting today, ascertained that the files by seven applicants were meeting the requirements, with another two candidates due to fill in the documents.
Among those who submitted the files there are the president of the Bankers’ League of Moldova, Dumitru Ursu, as well as former Finance Minister Veaceslav Negruta, financial risks manager at AG Insurance from Belgium Sergiu Iachim, a former employee at the Banca de Economii (Savings Bank), Victoriabank and Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR), Nina Schendrea, a senior banking consultant at Eximbank – Gruppo Veneto Banca, Andrei Sagaidac.
The full list of applicants has not been made public. Presently, the leadership of the National Bank of Moldova is ensured by outgoing governor Dorin Dragutanu.
On 21 September, Dragutanu and First Deputy Governor Marin Molosag informed about their dismissal, invoking including political pressures.
