Chisinau, 4 November /MOLDPRES/ - Representatives of the government and development partners, along with the civil society and academic environment, launched nation-wide debates to adapt the Sustainable Development Goals to Moldova's context at a seminar today.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals, formulated globally and approved at the UN General Assembly on 25 September 2015, regard the combating of poverty and inequalities, ensuring the welfare of everybody and economic development through protecting the planet. Each goal has specific targets, which should be attained in the next 15 years by the countries that joined the 2030 Development Agenda, including Moldova.
According to United Nations Development Programme Deputy Resident Representative Narine Sahakyan, "the global development agenda may become a successful one in Moldova, only if, at this incipient moment, the state will correctly identify the targets that are to be attained, through correlation with the current needs of the residents and their integration in the present framework of policies."
"The Goal 16, "Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions," may serve as a relevant example for Moldova. Its components are essential for generation of new resources and change for the better in the society," Narine Sahakyan said.
UN experts say the future Moldovan government should assume the Sustainable Development Agenda and elaborate a roadmap for localizing the Sustainable Development Goals with deadlines, clear-cut responsibilities and an approach accepted by the community.
