Chisinau, 4 November /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova and Ukraine today signed two agreements on cross-border cooperation. The event took place at a meeting of the Coordinating Council of the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM).

The first agreement provides for setting joint control at the Pervomaysk-Kuchurgan border checkpoint, that will allow carrying goods for import, export and transit via the Transnistrian region through this point.

The second accord is focused on automatic exchange of data when crossing the Moldovan-Ukrainian border, that will enhance the security and transparency in terms of movement of vehicles and goods in the concerned point.

Head of the Moldovan Border Police Dorin Purice has said that "the signing of these two agreements is part of the strategies of development of the Customs Service and is aimed at diminishing corruption acts at border checkpoints. At the same time, they remove double customs clearance in Chisinau and Tiraspol, as well as helps fight illegal migration."

Head of the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service Viktor Nazarenko said that "due to the signing of these documents, the cooperation between Moldova and Ukraine has become stronger and it would be good to extend this segment of collaboration in the long run."

The EUBAM Consultative Council held a meeting in Chisinau to approve a plan of activities of the Mission in the near future, as well as to extent the EUBAM's mandate till November 2017.

Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Daniela Cujba said that "in the ten years of work, EUBAM significantly contributed to implementing the integrated borders' management at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border checkpoints. Thus, Moldova will further back EUBAM's initiatives that bring concrete benefits to both countries on the European integration path."

The European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine was launched in 2005, to continuously promote customs norms and improve the customs control service, in line with the European standards.
