Manager of Moldovan companies Caravita, Business Estate Investments sentenced to five years of imprisonment

Chisinau, 6 November /MOLDPRES/ - The manager of the Ltd companies Caravita and Business Estate Investments, Ion Rusu, today was sentenced to five years of imprisonment, in a file on money laundering from Banca de Economii (Savings Bank, BEM).
Data by the General Prosecutor's Office (PG) shows that the sentence was pronounced by the Buiucani court of Chisinau. The court also applied a fine of 150,000 lei to the leadership of the two firms and ruled to liquidate the companies.
Under this sentence, the court admitted a petition submitted by Banca de Economii for the collection of 2,793,229 euros from Ion Rusu for the benefit of Commercial Bank Banca de Economii stock company.
The sentence is not final and may be appealed, under the law.
The PG press service said that this file represented a part of the investigations related to Banca de Economii. Presently, prosecutors consider another two criminal files on embezzlement from the financial and banking sector. At the same time, 18 files on providing bad credits by the three failed banks have been previously sent to court and are in different phases of consideration.
