Chisinau, 6 November /MOLDPRES/ - The special commission has not managed to select any candidate, of the eight ones who submitted their files of participation in the contest for the office of National Bank of Moldova (BNM) governor. The chairman of the commission, Stefan Creanga, following the today's meeting said that a new selection contest was to be organised.
"The commission has reached the conclusion that no candidate can be put forward for the office of BNM governor," Stefan Creanga said. He also said that "the contest remains open" and that he hopes very much that "the parliament speaker will take notice of the commission's ruling and will propose a solution."
The decision was taken by majority vote. The candidates failed to meet the set criteria and, in particular, from my viewpoint, in terms of monetary and macroeconomic policies, economic development," the chairman of the commission said. Creanga stressed that he doubted that the candidates had not been prepared, but that "the requirements were maybe too great."
According to a commission member, executive director of the Expert-Grup Analytical Independent Centre, Adrian Lupusor, at least two candidates, Veaceslav Negruta and Dumitru Ursu, met the requirements. Nevertheless, Lupusor emphasised that he expected "more candidates with real chances." Six members of the commission out of nine voted against the putting up of a candidacy for the governor post, to be confirmed by the parliament.
Eight candidates participated in the contest, of whom the head of the Moldovan Bankers' League, Dumitru Ursu, a former finance minister Veaceslav Negruta, a manager of an audit company Nina Schendrea, economist Andrei Sagaidac and others.
BNM Governor Dorin Dragutanu on 21 September resigned from office, on grounds of political pressures. A few days ago, Dragutanu said he would not withdraw his application. Under the legislation in force, the application is to considered in a three-month period after the tendering of resignation.
