Chisinau, 9 November /MOLDPRES/- The leadership of the Democratic Party (PDM), Liberal Party (PL) and MPs of the group headed by Iurie Leanca on 8 November resumed negotiations on the creation of a new governing coalition.
Following the discussions, PDM and PL leaders said they had already started working on a coalition political agreement. The document proposed by Democrats, focuses on two main directions, meant to steer Moldova out of crisis and improve its citizens’ lives. “The draft agreement we have carried out will dispel all the doubts on Moldova’s EU integration. The result of these talks must be the public offer of the next government. I believe the biggest majority of the MPs will be interested in this agreement, which hopefully will be signed by at least 51 of them,” PDM leader Marian Lupu said.
PL leader Mihai Ghimpu said Moldova was in urgent need of a government. “The lack of a government caused the failure to sign the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and receive the first 60-million-euro installment from Romania. It is not the place or time for anger. The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) should start negotiations with us,” Ghimpu said.
Leanca said the new coalition needed a majority of votes on 30 November to become functional. “Pro-European parties are the only ones able to form a majority, as any other coalition lacking major parliamentary support, will not work,” Leanca noted.
The government of Alliance for European Integration III (AIE) headed by former Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet was dismissed on 29 October with the votes of Democrat, Communist and Socialist MPs. Subsequently, PDM leadership announced negotiations on the creation of a new governing coalition.
