Moldovan government top official, European Commission representatives discuss bilateral cooperation

Chisinau, 11 November /MOLDPRES/ - Government Secretary General Sergiu Palihovici today had a meeting with a delegation of the European Commission, on a working visit to Chisinau. The delegation is made up of coordinator for the Eastern Partnership states, Gianpiero Borzillo, international assistance officer and gender expert Emma Sandahl, and European Commission team leader for relations with Moldova and Georgia Rudie Filon, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.
The sides discussed the present stage of the implementation of the projects carried out in Moldova with the European Union's support, as well as subjects on planning the bilateral cooperation for the next period. In particular, the officials considered possibilities of assistance on behalf of EU in promoting the Public Administration Reform and SIGMA project, which provides for assessing the public system of Moldova, as well as extending the high-level mission for counselling the Moldovan government.
In the context, Sergiu Palihovici said that one of the goals of Moldova's State Chancellery, as national authority in charge of managing the foreign assistance, was to strengthen public institutions' capacities, in order to ensure their functionality and efficiency, as well as for investment's sustainability.
Another subject of the meeting was focused on prospects for medium-term cooperation (2017-2019). In this context, the European officials confirmed willingness to back Moldova in carrying out investment projects, focused on rural development and facilitating the enforcement of the Association Agreement in terms of creation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA).
The government's secretary general gave assurances that the projects on modernising the infrastructure and public services would be promoted no matter the political processes and challenges from Moldova, so that the Moldovan residents get as many as possible benefits from the EU's assistance.
The sides agreed to maintain an active dialogue, in order to adjust the planned activities to the provisions of the country's strategic development framework.
