Moldovan Liberals make public appeal to Liberal Democrats, Democrats

Chisinau, 17 November /MOLDPRES/ - The leader of the Liberal Party (PL), Mihai Ghimpu, today made a public appeal to the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) to come to negotiations on the formation of a new government. Also, the Liberals urged the Democratic Party (PDM) to change their tactics towards PLDM.

PL leader Mihai Ghimpu said that "PLDM, PDM, PL and the Leanca group must urgently sit down at the table of negotiations. If the creation of the government or nomination of the candidacy for the office of prime minister does not take place next week at the latest, we will have big problems. The snap elections represent the most serious thing that might happen."

PDM leader Marian Lupu has recently said that the PLDM lawmakers "are expected and welcome to the talks on the formation of the new government."

The leader of the European People's Party of Moldova (PPEM), Iurie Leanca, stressed that no parliamentary majority could be without PLDM. "A parliamentary majority, a cabinet, depoliticized institutions cannot exist without PLDM. On this ground, we will wait for the PLDM colleagues."

The Liberal Democrats for the time being refuse to participate in the negotiations on the formation of a new government, invoking that "the dismissal of the Strelet cabinet was not a well-grounded act and PDM bears full responsibility for the present political crisis."

The government of the Alliance for European Integration III (AIE III), led by prime minister Valeriu Strelet, was dismissed with the votes of PDM, Party of Communists and Party of Socialists lawmakers on 29 October. Subsequently, PDM said it would initiate talks for the creation of a new ruling coalition.
