Chisinau, 17 November /MOLDPRES/- A Syrian citizen suspected of propagating Islamist ideas in Moldova was detained by employees of the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) today.

Prosecutor Nicu Sendrea, who instruments the case, has told journalists that the man's actions had been monitored by SIS employees during six months and that there were reasonable suspicions that he would have certain connections and relations in terms of propagating Islamist ideas in Moldova.

Sendrea said the suppositions by security bodies were confirmed also by the evidence made today morning following a search that took place at the suspect's home. The man was detained for 72 hours. Depending on the results of the investigations, the man might be declared persona non grata on the territory of Moldova and expelled.

Following the terroristic attacks in France, committed late on 13 November, more analysts and experts in security said that Moldova was also in a framework of risk in terms of terrorism, which is likely to increase.  Moreover, in an interview, SIS Director Mihai Balan said that instability and military conflicts from the Middle East enhance the terrorist risk all over Europe, generating flows of refugees from conflict-stricken zones.
