Moldovan Roads, Infrastructure Ministry prepares national roads for winter season

Chisinau, 18 November /MOLDPRES/-Deputy Transports and Road Infrastructure Minister Vitalie Rapcea during today's cabinet meeting unveiled a report on the preparedness of Moldovan roads for the winter of 2015-2016, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.
Thus, 14 entrerpises of the State Road Management state enterprise are carrying out road management and maintenance works. A number of 483 equipped vehicles, with a preparedness level of 85 per cent, are ready to remove snow and diffuse skid material. The State Road Management state enterprise will also sign direct contracts with economic agents if additional snow clearing equipment is needed.
A number of 177 GPS-endowed vehicles are ready to diffuse skid material to ensure an efficient monitoring of the equipment used for road maintenance works.
According to the Transports and Roads Infrastructure Ministry, almost 80 thousand tones of skid material will be needed during the winter season. So far, there are only 23 thousand tones of skid material and 21 thousand tones of sand available in stocks. Additionally, the ministry will purchase technical salt to prepare another 20.5 thousand tones of skid material.
A total of 40 cameras are installed along the national roads to monitor and view traffic during winter. The ministry will install 43 km of snow protection fences on road segments mostly exposed to snowdrifts. According to the latest data, road markings have been installed to an approximate extent of 60 per cent.
A “non-stop” service for quick information on traffic conditions during winter will be available starting with 01.12.2015 (telephone 74-89-61, 22-55-30, email [email protected] ). Territorial road enterprises will also offer information in this sense.
