Chisinau, 18 November /MOLDPRES/-The Criminal Division of the Moldovan Court of Appeal today rejected the appeal of the lawyers of Liberal-Democrat MP Vlad Filat and upheld the ruling of the investigating judge to extend Vlad Filat's arrest by 30 days.
According to lawyer Igor Popa, there is no evidence to support the prolongation of the preventive arrest. “I explained that the preventive detention of Vlad Filat is unjustifiable. It is a major mistake to keep someone under arrest without evidence. The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) will rule against Moldova in this case,” Popa said.
The access of media representatives to the event was restricted. Vlad Filat was banned from talking to journalists.
The Liberal-Democrat leader was arrested by the officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (CNA) on 15 October 2015, after being stripped of parliamentary immunity. Filat was transferred from the CNA's isolator into the penitentiary No. 13 in Chisinau.
