EU stays committed to Moldova

Chisinau, 20 November /MOLDPRES/-Deputy Prime Minister, acting Foreign and European Integration Minister Natalia Gherman paid a visit to Brussels on 19 November to hold a string of meetings with representatives of EU institutions and MEPs, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.
During the meeting with the director general for Europe and Central Asia within the European External Action Service (EEAS), Thomas Mayr-Harting, the officials discussed priorities on Moldova-EU agenda, as well as Moldova’s political situation. Mayr-Harting voiced conviction that EU institutions will continue to be fully committed to Moldova and help it implement the Association Agreement and the Free Trade Zone, adding that the European Union is interested in stabilizing the situation in Moldova. The EU official also noted that reforms must be continued for the benefit of the Moldovan citizens.
The Moldovan official also met the director general for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Directorate General within the European Commission, Christian Danielsson. The sides focused mainly on the assessment of the results upon the first year of implementation of the Association Agreement in Moldova. Danielsson said it was very important to sign an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to continue the implementation of EU assistance programmes. The officials also exchanged views on the European neigbourhood policy, the EU had recently made public.
For her part, Gherman broached the current state of the Transnistrian conflict’s settlement process, adding that it is important to continue five-plus-two negotiations and maintain the preferential access of Transnistrian companies to the EU markets.
The Moldovan official also held talks with MEPs Elmar Brok, Petras Austrevicius and Jacek Saryusz-Wolski on Moldova’s social-political development, regional situation and the support offered by the European Parliament.
