Moldovan electoral body asks international organisations not to send observers to "elections" to Tiraspol supreme soviet

Chisinau, 23 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today launched an appeal to international organisations that monitor polls and human rights' protection, thereby asking them not to send observers to monitor the so-called elections to the Tiraspol supreme soviet (local legislative body).

According to a CEC press release, the sending of observers to this breakaway region might be interpreted as a de facto recognition of the breakaway authorities' "right" to breach the civil and electoral rights of Moldova's citizens with residence in this area.

The polls to the so-called supreme soviet of the self-proclaimed Transnistrian republic are scheduled for 29 November, this year.
