Moldova to mark Holocaust Remembrance Day on 27 January

Chisinau, 26 November /MOLDPRES/- Moldova will mark the Holocaust Remembrance Day on 27 January. The parliament adopted a draft decision to this end today.
The initiative belongs to the government and aims at observing the rights of the ethnic minorities from Moldova.
According to authors, the importance of establishing the day is the result of rising the Moldovan society’s information level as regards Holocaust, gaining progressive experience by the world community on keeping the memory of this tragedy and promoting the awareness of the respect for all ethnic groups from Moldova.
The document’s authors believe that the establishment of such a day will have immediate effect in the national policies on ethnic minorities, especially in the context of implementing the Moldova-EU association agenda.
The draft was supported by the majority of the MPs present at the parliament meeting.
