Moldovan acting minister attends informal meeting of foreign ministers in Tbilisi

Chisinau, 27 November /MOLDPRES/- Acting Foreign and European Integration Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Natalia Gherman participated in the sixth informal meeting of foreign ministers within the Eastern Partnership in Tbilisi on 26 November. Attending the event were European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn and Deputy Secretary General for the External Action Service Helga Schmid, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s communication and media relations service has reported.
The talks were focused on evolutions after the Summit of Eastern Partnership in Riga and reviewing European Neighborhood Policy, presented in a Joint Communication of the European Commission and EU High Representative on 18 November 2015. In the context, Gherman welcomed the new approach of the policy, especially, the focus on stability, economic development and security level. Also, the official stressed the importance of flexible approach of future cooperation with neighboring countries, mainly for those committed to a political association and economic integration with EU.
Touching upon the level of meeting the goals set in the Riga Declaration, the official reiterated that Moldova was firmly committed to implementing the Association Agreement, including the component related to the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement. Also, the official mentioned the efforts for strengthening the Moldovan-EU cooperation in such sectors as: border management, migration, civil protection, development of energy efficiency projects, supporting entrepreneurs, especially, those in rural areas.
A special session within the event was dedicated to security issues. The participants were unanimous in appreciating the risks which affected stability and peace at international level, as well as in interest to cooperate in different formats, including the ones focused on crisis management and cyber security consolidation.
