Germany to grant one-off financial aid to soviet prisoners of war from Moldova

Chisinau, 27 November /MOLDPRES/-The German Bundestag decided to offer former soviet prisoners of war a one-off allowance of 2,500 euros.
According to the press service of the German Embassy in Chisinau, “former soldiers of the soviet troops taken prisoner and held in detention by Germany, during the World War II on 22 June 1941- 8 May 1945” are eligible to receive “the symbolic financial aid in sign of recognition”.
Beneficiaries must apply in writing at the Federal Office for Central Services and Unresolved Property Issues (BADV), DGZ Ring 12, D-13086 Berlin. More information on the application procedure and form may be found on the internet page of the Federal Office for Central Services and Unresolved Property Issues, at www.badv.bund.de.
According to Moldovan Defence Ministry, there are almost 2,000 World War II veterans in Moldova.
At the same time, authorities in charge within Chisinau city hall and National Office of Social Insurance of Moldova could not give data at the municipal and country level on the number of former soviet prisoners of war that could qualify for the one-off financial aid offered by the German government.
