Chisinau, 27 November /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova has been placed on the third position in the World Bank's OpenCorporates top, being outrun only by Denmark and the United Kingdom. The top compares the level of revealing trade registers globally.
In the World Bank's ranking, Moldova is followed by Norway, Australia and Latvia. Russia is on the 20th position, with the same number of points as Serbia. The top is updating permanently, according to the methodology, after one or another country makes certain changes in the open data field. Although situated on one of the first positions, to attain the maximal score, Moldova is also to bring full transparency in the information on enterprises' financial results, which is also necessary, in order to ensure a transparent business environment and attractive to investments.
Moldova went up in the ranking, after a string of data on enterprises' founders had become compulsory.
The decision to make public the surnames and first names of the founders was taken by the government following insistences by the Economic Council to the Prime Minister, as well as on behalf of the business environment, civil society and media representatives. More business associations, NGOs and media institutions also signed a joint declaration, thereby asking to disclose information on the surnames and first names of the founders of commercial societies from Moldova, in order to fight corruption and ensure a transparent and safe business environment.
Starting from August 2015, data on the enterprises from Moldova are published on the portal www.date.gov.md. The portal contains the surnames and first names of the founders, Identification Number/enterprise's fiscal code, registration date, full name of the company, address of the headquarters, list of leaders, kinds of licensed activities, kinds of non-licensed activities. Although only three years after the launch have passed, this is already the most downloaded set of data on the www.date.gov.md portal.
The OpenCorporates ranking was launched in 2012, in order to bring transparency to the private sector worldwide.
